I was first introduced to crystals by a dear friend of mine from VA. She’s one of those friends who was destined to be a part of my spiritual journey. She used to carry them with her and I was not only captivated by the beauty of each one, but the energies they held were so powerful. So I started collecting my own.
I love my healing crystals; they are my talismans. I mostly use them when I practice meditation, and sometimes I carry them with me in my purse or bra for an energy boost. Stones and crystals are made up of life giving elements such as the Sun, Moon, and the oceans, so coming in contact with them immediately channels a connection to Mother Earth. My crystals are like a spiritual reminder of my connection to the Universe.
Many people wonder if crystals really have healing powers. Some would even consider crystal healing a pseudoscientific medicinal technique with no scientific basis that it actually works. Others are becoming loose with labeling spiritual practices such as crystal healing as witchcraft. But for those who have an open heart and mind, crystal healing is very real and transformative. It amazes me how scientists, physicists, metaphysicians, and spiritualists all have opposing viewpoints that point to the same universal truths. For example, scientists have evidence to support the placebo effect is real but fail to apply that same logic to crystal healing. If a fake pill can heal a person from having symptoms, then surely a precious piece of the Universe would have the same healing powers. The key is to realize the power of our minds and how we manifest the intentions that we set. Our minds connect us to infinite intelligence, and that’s where all the magic happens…
How to Find the Right Crystals for You
Each crystal has different healing properties and vibrations. If you’re just beginning to use crystals, here are 5 powerful ones to start with:
Clear quartz further amplifies your intention which makes it a key component to a crystal collection. It also magnifies the vibrations of the stones that surround it.
Selenite can be used to cleanse the energy of other stones. Selenite promotes purity and honesty, and it’s powerful vibration can clear, open, and activate the crown chakra.
Amethyst enhances intuition, calms the mind, and helps with headaches and hangovers/drunkenness. This crystal is also said to help people connect to their spirituality.
Citrine has an optimistic energy and promotes creativity. Citrine also works to repel negative energy and attract abundance.
Rose quartz is the crystal for love. It is commonly used for attracting and keeping love and protecting relationships. It also promotes self-love and balances your heart chakra.
Keep in mind that sometimes the crystal chooses YOU vibrationally. You may feel it and be drawn to a particular stone without even knowing its benefits or healing properties. Sometimes I’m drawn to the physical beauty or physical touch of a stone first. It also helps to first identify a challenge you are facing before selecting a stone. There is no right or wrong way to choose your crystals. Your experience is unique to you; use your intuition as a guide.
Some of my favorite places to shop for crystals locally are Rainbow Blossom, Happy’s Meditation, and lovesexandmagic.co. Love, Sex, and Magic is a small business in Louisville, KY owned by Bri, and I just love her energy! She sells jewelry, stones, and more on her website so I would highly recommend you starting there.
How to Use Your Crystals
Crystals have several benefits, and one way to tap into their powerful vibrations is to keep them close to you. You can wear them as jewelry, or put them in your purse, pocket, or bra to increase your vibrational frequency.
Another important component to working with crystals is programming, or setting intentions for them. Each stone usually has multiple healing properties, so give your crystal a purpose. This helps to reconnect you to your higher power when you are on a lower vibrational frequency. In order to program your crystal, you should cleanse it first. There are several cleansing methods, such as immersing the crystal in the smoke of burning sage, placing the crystal under the light of the sun or the moon, or burying your crystal in the Earth to allow it to be recharged with Earth energy. Next, hold your crystal in your hands, close your eyes, take three deep breaths, and express gratitude. This connects you with your highest vibration. Then ask, (aloud or in your head), for your crystal to be cleared of all unwanted energy and previous programming, and command the crystal to hold your intention.
Another way to use your crystals is to meditate with them. One of my rituals is to burn a candle, and arrange my crystals in front of me while I meditate. This nurtures the bond I have with my crystals and stones. You can even put them in your bath or use them as decoration throughout your space. I recommend taking the time to study your crystals though, because some crystals such as selenite should not be submerged in water.
Burning sage is not a new spiritual practice, it has been done for centuries by Native Americans and other indenginous peoples to cleanse a person or space. To cleanse your house with sage, burn a candle, set an intention, and then light the sage using the candle. Next, start smudging from room to room. Burning sage promotes wisdom, clarity, and healing. You can shop for sage at Miracle Shops of Luxury, which is another small business in Louisville, KY owned by my sister, Keshia. She specializes in vaginal health and holistic wellness. I highly recommend you check out her website.
Do You Believe in Magic?
I wish more people understood the power of our minds and tongue. People cast spells on themselves everyday through self talk and affirmations, whether good or bad. You are what you say you are, and I am what I say I am. I believe in the power of manifestation because I’m a master of turning my thoughts into reality. Every desire I want to manifest I write down and speak into the Universe, and shortly after it becomes my reality. Just like magic. I guess a better question would be, “Do you believe in YOU?” Because belief in God and self is a must if you want to tap into your magic and begin co-creating the life you wish to live. Spiritual healing and growth is a beautiful process.
